Our family adventure Blog of places to go, food to eat, things to do & people to meet… where people gather.
Day Three… WaimeaCanyon, Shrimp Station, Pu’ukila lookout, Kauai Coffee Plantation, ABC Store and Wal-mart in Lihue.
On our drive to Waimea, we stopped for lunch at the Shrimp Station and ordered coconut shrimp, beer battered shrimp & chips and shrimp taco. They were all delicious but the coconut shrimp’s fresh and local ingredients make it the best for me. The canyons were breathtaking. You can see all the way to the ocean on a clear day. At th Pu’ukila lookout, we saw a couple of goats just going about their business on the ridge. From there, you can also see some trails, rivers and falls. Bring binoculars!
We stopped at the Kauai Coffee Plantaion. They are the biggest coffee bean provider in the US! The plantation is over 3,100 acres. While there, we took a self guided tour, tasted a few of their blends. My favorite, Koloa Estate – Dark Roast.
Tip: I found this blend at Wal-mart in Lihue and was a lot cheaper compared to the plantation price. But if you don’t want to take a chance, it is worth the extra dollars. Also, Wal-mart sells the hershey kisses with macadamia nut that the mainland does not sell and Hershey won’t ship it there either (for now). Souvenirs are cheaper there too but there is an ABC store in town (Kapaa) most known for their souvenir variety.
Tomorrow… Kiauea Lighthouse and Anini Road beaches.
